Description

Phonetics and phonology are closely related core fields within linguistics, having both a common object of study, but a different perspective. While phonetics focuses the physical properties of the production, transmission and perception of speech sounds, phonology studies the functional representation and organization of these sounds within the grammar of human language. In this course we are going to concentrate on the phonetic description of speech sounds, which will be applied to the phonological organization of the English language.
